DESPERATE SHOPLIFTER HELPED BY ENLIGHTENED POLICE OFFICER

Cassia Robles, struggling mother of three, was caught shoplifting $300.00 worth of groceries in a South Florida Publix store. Miami Dade police officer Vicky Thomas decided not to take Robles into custody, determining the act was made out of desperation. The charge was a misdemeanor with a notice of appear to court instead. Officer Thomas then purchased $100.00 worth of groceries for her and her three children, a 12‑year-old daughter and two younger boys ages two and five. After the story aired locally, viewers across South Florida reached out to help Robles. She received substantial financial assistance from a number of South Florida residents, and another resident offered her employment.
